Jenny's View

Friends,

On what seems like every other street corner it lingers: that distinctly New Mexican aroma wafting through our neighborhoods and markets, inescapable and constant.  The scent of chile roasting is strangely comforting this year.  With so much disruption in the world, the value of simple pleasures is amplified.  The aroma reminds me of the countless bowls of green chile stew shared with loved ones and friends, the stuffed poblano recipes passed from Fred Harvey Era kitchens to our very own La Plazuela and the impact this crop has on the livelihood of so many.

Though the Santa Fe Wine and Chile festivities are on hold this year, we’re still planning to celebrate New Mexico’s signature flavor paired with regional wines.  On Thursday, September 24th we’re hosting a socially distanced, Tuscan-inspired dinner on our Terrace Rooftop Garden Patio that’s sure to be a hit. Space is limited, so book your spot now!  Call (505) 995-2334 to make a reservation.

Did you know that New Mexico produces approximately 1 million cases of wine annually?  We have 45 wineries across the state and over 1,200 acres of vineyards.  New Mexico’s high elevation, dry climate and sandy soil provide ideal drainage for vines, keeping them healthy and crisp.  I encourage you to explore our many wonderful wineries and sample the variety of distinctly southwest vintages – taste our hot days and cold nights that manifest with each sip.  Check out this wine tour map and get ready for your next adventure!

Detours, La Fonda’s Gift Shop is one of the only venues off the plaza that offers distinctly New Mexico spirits, wines and of course, chile!  Stop by to explore the selection of locally produced gifts that honor the rich tradition of our historic cuisine.  Kelly Urig’s book, New Mexico Chiles, History, Legend and Lore provides an in-depth story about the evolution of our spice culture. Purchase it in our online shop – and while you’re at it, explore the other amazing local cookbooks we have to offer.

As we navigate the uncharted territory of these trying times, let’s take time to break bread with friends and savor the flavors that unite us.

Salud!

Photogenesis

There is a famous quote by John Keats that reads "A thing of beauty is a joy forever." Photogenesis has displayed this quote above the door to their gallery for over 30 years because it resonates deeply with their values. The beautiful archival pigment print by Nicholas Trofimuk, "Pink at Night" captures beauty and the wonders of the New Mexico skies at sunset. It offers a reminder that we can all delight in nature's wonder.
