What Guests are Saying About La Fonda

"What better place to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary than at La Fonda on the Plaza - one of our very favorite hotels. We had no idea when we booked our room, weeks in advance, that the night of our anniversary was also the annual Zozobra celebration. Fortunately for us, the hotel arranged a private showing of the event in one of their ballrooms, so that we didn’t have to battle the crowds on the Plaza. We visited the Bell Tower for happy hour almost every night of the five nights we were there. Perfect place for watching the amazing sunsets. The rooms are just outstanding with their original art and appointments, i.e. 2 shower heads, Nespresso coffee maker, a balcony overlooking the church, extremely comfortable beds, and on and on. On-site parking is so easy to use, as well. A big bonus since parking is so difficult downtown. Location near the Square is so great with all the performances, etc. just a short walk away. Location is also a short walk from Santa Fe’s best dining. And to top things off, the management recognized our special day in a very special way." JFBHouston, 09/17/18

"We really loved our stay at the La Fonda. It’s a historic hotel located in the heart of Santa Fe and full of museum quality artwork. The rooms are beautiful and decorated in period furnishings, some with balconies and a fireplace. The staff is first class and shops and restaurants in the hotel definitely add to a truly wonderful experience. This is a treasure worth visiting ." Bob F, 09/22/18

"This was our first trip ever to Santa Fe and we lucked out choosing La Fonda on the Plaza!! It was perfect in every way. The location was great... right in the middle of all the action. The room was comfortable and lovely. The staff was attentive and helpful. We ate at the restaurant one night and it was GREAT too! We loved every minute of our quick get away weekend!"  Jennifer L 10/1/18

"We spent the weekend at the La Fonda for our anniversary. We could not have stayed in a better place. The hotel is right on the plaza, so once we parked our car we didn't need it the rest of the weekend. We spent the weekend sleeping in, having room service for breakfast, the spent the rest of the day strolling the plaza. Check-in was a breeze and the staff were friendly and helpful, especially Nate who was and the front desk. He was absolutely wonderful and welcoming. A friendly face who made our stay great from the first moment. The LaFonda is absolutely beautiful. Modern, yet it has kept its southwestern and rugged charm, something you can't get in modern resorts or hotels. The have updated the rooms while keeping the feel of how the hotel must have felt 100 years ago. This doesn't mean that there are not modern conveniences. The rooms were up to date with all you need for a great stay. Our room was a two room suite with a bedroom and separate living area. The king bed was so comfortable and the bathroom was large with a terrific two shower head shower there was even a half bath off the living room. I've never seen that before in a hotel. We booked the bed and breakfast package, which was a good deal. We love room service, so it was fantastic that we could order the free breakfast through room service and not have to go down to the restaurant for breakfast. The breakfasts were huge, tasty, and filling. I definitely recommend staying at the La Fonda." Albuquerque, New Mexico, February, 2017

"Wonderful all around. Location is great, rooms are spacious, can’t beat the restaurant, and there’s art everywhere. Tours of the hotel’s artwork are given daily. Take the tour as soon as possible so you can appreciate it and enjoy it all the more. It’s really unbelievable. There are two bars. There’s one downstairs which had live music over the weekend and another on the roof. The one on the roof closes early so as to not disturb the rooms that are close by. Check it out! There’s a Nespresso coffee maker in the room along with free water bottles which are restocked daily. The artwork, service, cleanliness, atmosphere, location,.... I could go on and on. This place deserves 5 stars without a doubt. Can’t wait to come back.  Frisco, TX, September,2018

"Staying at La Fonda on the Plaza is an experience rich in color, texture and history; both artistic and otherwise. The hotel is situated in old downtown, across the street from the stately and beautiful Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi. The bell tower’s soft peals can be heard throughout the streets, and add to the romance of the hotel. We arrived almost two hours early for our stay after driving up from Albuquerque but luckily our one-bedroom suite with its wood-burning fireplace was ready. The room also had a nice balcony, although the chilly and occasionally rainy weather meant we could not spend much time there. The suites on the 5th floor (which is also the top floor) contain original artwork from southwestern artists, and the art is labeled with the name, date, school and other information, and the collection appears to be diverse with Native American artists of several periods represented. The original artwork extends to the original hand-painted headboards on the firm and very comfortable beds. The 5th floor also contains a bar with incredible views of the city, however, it is not open during the winter months, although there is still a very nice view of the bell tower and the cityscape from the two walls of windows just off the elevator inside. The main in-house restaurant, La Plazuela, is a great way to start the day – whether it is in the restaurant itself or via room service. We ate out for dinner, but it seemed to be a popular place to eat for locals as well. The artwork in the restaurant is also worth noting; the walls are actually a series of lovely hand-painted windows created by an employee of the hotel, Ernest Martinez, who painted them in the 1980s, and worked at the hotel until he retired a few years ago. The windows are considered a treasure, and were carefully preserved during the hotel’s renovation in 2013. His work can also be found on the firehose cabinet glass along the corridors and on some of the furniture. We even spotted some of his work in the parking garage. The staff at the hotel was extremely helpful and friendly; they recommended a restaurant for the final night of our stay and arranged a last-minute reservation. Chocolates on the bed for the turndown service were a nice touch. The hotel has its own set of shops containing southwestern style clothing, hats, footwear and artwork, as well as antiques; they are all extremely tempting.  All of the artistic energy and the caring staff makes the hotel feel like a precious find – it is a museum in a sense, but an extremely comfortable one, and you leave feeling as if you’ve had a unique taste of the intriguing history of Santa Fe. We really enjoyed our time here, and cannot imagine staying anywhere else on our next trip." Los Angeles,CA  January, 2017

"Everything about our stay at La Fonda was great. The hotel is beautifully renovated with some modern additions but retaining the wonderful historic feel of this great hotel. The staff could not have been friendlier in every part of the hotel...dining room, housekeeping, room service, front desk. The little attentions to details set this hotel apart. The restaurant was good. We had breakfast there which were great and I recommend getting a room rate that includes breakfast as otherwise you will spend about $20 a person for breakfast. We were not able to eat in the main dining room during our stay as they were completely booked up by some special promotion they had offered that was ending during our stay. However we ate in the bar restaurant and the food and service was good with fresh ingredients. Cannot wait to come back for another visit soon." Shawnee, Kansas  January, 2017

"We always stay at the La Fonda when we travel to Santa Fe. It has the feel of old Santa Fe with modern comfort. The new owners have redone many of the rooms, but kept the ambiance of the old hotel. It is centrally located on the Plaza with most everything within walking distance. The restaurant has great food and we love the Bell Tower bar for sunset margaritas. We've stayed in many types of rooms over the years. Some have working fireplaces. I love that my grandfather stayed here years ago as well." Durango, CO December, 2016

"From the moment we walked in, this was a dream! The toasty fireplaces in every nook, the beautiful Christmas tree and life size nativity.....gorgeous painted windows in the restaurant. Just a feast for the eyes. And the LOCATION! Steps from everything. Not the you need to leave this place :) French crepes inside the hotel, with amazing cookies and pastries.....hot chocolate and great coffee. We bought gorgeous gifts at Finer Things, located within the hotel and other items in the countless shops on the square. I loved hearing the Basilica church bells chime and enjoyed all the amazing art on Canyon Road. We will be back, and will stay at La Fonda!" Texas, December, 2016

"My wife and I have been coming to Santa Fe over Christmas for fifteen (15) years. The La Fonda has always been our choice and has given us unparalleled excellent service. The historic significance of the hotel is noteworthy and the location could not be better. If I could give La Fonda six stars . . . I would." Mountain View, CA, December, 2016

"This is a fabulous hotel!!!! All of the staff went out of their way to help in any way they could. The hotel itself is so historic and yet has been brought up to modern standards. On the historic square and convenient to the whole city, the hacienda has the feel of old New Mexico (in the best of ways). It, and Santa Fe, were convenient for day trips to Taos and Tent Rocks NP. When returning to Santa Fe, we would not stay at any other hotel." Atlanta, GA November, 2016

"From the minute we arrived on the property until we left, we felt very welcome and appreciated by the entire staff. After a tiring and festive Thanksgiving w/20+ Family Members in nearby New Mexico, me and my companion decided to unwind at La Fonda. My parents and siblings have stayed there numerous times and raved about it. I can see why! We arrived early and the front desk clerk welcomed us to the resort. She said our room was ready and promptly dispatched a bell captain to get our bags from the parking garage. We had reserved a suite for one night, and once we saw it, I had to see if I could get it for another couple of nights. I went directly to the front desk and Gabby, the nice young lady working, said she would see what she could do since the place was booked. Ten minutes later there was a knock on my door and I was personally delivered the good news that our stay had been extended (at a lower rate!) Dining was superb, as it was Prime Rib night. Reservations were made for me. Breakfasts were a wonderful experience, as well as the Bar area. Spa services and massages were just what we needed! Even had room service one evening. Very prompt and delicious. Enjoyed reading by the warm fires in the common areas. Every detail was attended to and the staff was excellent! Next time, I think we will skip the Family Get together, and come straight here! "Houston, TX November, 2016

"To experience the La Fonda on the Plaza is a sensory overload in Southwestern art. Every hallway, every nook and cranny is filled with paintings, prints, painted windows, carved and wrought staircases, and more. Even the headboards on the beds are works of art, each being painted in differing colors and designs. You never really need to leave the hotel (although you should) because your every need can be met right inside. Food, drink, shopping, you name it! The staff is always willing to provide for your every comfort to make your stay the best it can be. It's truly the best place you can stay in Santa Fe." McKinney, TX November, 2016

"What a unique, lovely place! My trip was part business and part fun. On the "business" side, the facilities were very nice and the people who organized the conference I attended said the event planners were very accommodating. The food was great, and the server assigned to our room was able to arrange gluten-free and dairy-free food for me to eat, which I appreciated. On the "fun" side, the hotel is so unique and in such a great location--right in the middle of everything. The concierge was very helpful with suggestions for a day trip, the front desk staff were great, and the maid service was wonderful. Seriously, our room was spotless and the cleaning staff seemed to take great pride in their jobs (as everyone did). The bed was comfortable and the room was pretty soundproof despite tile floors. We ate breakfast and dinner at the hotel restaurant (and drank and snacked in the bar area), and the food was delicious. A couple downsides are the small size of the spa and exercise room, but these don't take away from the overall great experience. We really enjoyed our stay!" Orlando, FL November, 2016

"The La Fonda on the Plaza hotel is a beautiful old hotel which has been updated. Comfortable rooms, beds, bedding. Each headboard has been painted by a local artist. Bathrooms are spacious and immaculate. Quiet despite a busy lobby. Location is right off of the plaza and across from St Francis and Loretta Chapel. Has a parking structure attached. Within walking of restaurants and historic attractions, shopping, galleries. Gabi at the front desk was very helpful to work with. Will return!" Greenwood Village, Co, October, 2016

"My wife and I spent three nights at La Fonda recently. The location is the best in town if you want to be near the plaza. We reserved a suite and it was very nice, exactly as represented on the website. We had dinner there one night and breakfast a couple of mornings. Food was excellent and service was very friendly. The french pastry shop in the lobby was great. The concierge was extremely helpful, before we arrived and after we were there. Their recommendations were spot on. The next time we visit Santa Fe, and we will, La Fonda is definitely the hotel we would use." Manchester, NH September 2016
"I can't say enough about the concern for my well-being that I found at La Fonda. I have traveled the world and no other hotel has ever been so responsive to my needs. This surprised me because my expectation was for an average reception in a touristy setting. Nothing could be farther from what I experienced from the staff. I arrived before check-in suffering from fatigue and altitude sickness and just as I was about to ask about the early check-in cost/procedure/availability, the manager told me that he had a room available -- nothing extra required. Unfortunately I ended up sick during my stay and was wandering the lobby at 4 a.m. looking for a coke. The guard on duty offered to go get one for me. That's over-the-top service -- something in my state that was so appreciated. Later in the day, the front desk sent up bubbly water -- so helpful and so appreciated as well. And something that I still don't understand is the "service charge" added by other hotels. That La Fonda doesn't have such a charge is remarkable." San Antonio,TX May, 2016
