Santa Fe Thunder Half Marathon & 5K

Sunday, September 17, 2017 September 17, 2017 La Fonda on the Plaza

Starting in the heart of Santa Fe at historic Fort Marcy, the point-to-point course follows the Old Taos Highway, finishing at Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino in the Pueblo of Pojoaque. The 1,000 foot net downhill USATF-certified course (including 300 feet of uphill the first 2 miles) features spectacular views of the Sangre de Cristo and Jemez mountains while dropping into the colorful Rio Grande Valley. Inspired by African drummers at the start and live music along the course, runners pass by the world-famous Santa Fe Opera, the Tesuque Village Market, Camel Rock and the Tesuque Pueblo on the way to Pojoaque along a route that our ancestors have run and walked for centuries.

Race weekend also features the Global Running Festival and Global Footprints Youth Runs on Saturday, the Agalu Nigerian drummers at the start and finish lines, Tarahumara runners and artists, a one-of-a-kind Race start by a Kalenjin Warrior clad in ceremonial dress blowing his Great Grandfather Chief's Kiprinyambud (a 4-foot long Kudu horn), live New Mexican music along the course (including belly dancers at the Tesuque Village Market!) and at the Finish Line Fiesta, 180 age group medals hand made by Pueblo artists (for the Half Marathon and the Lightning 5K), performances by the Pojoaque Pueblo Youth Hoop Dancers and more surprises. Starting in unique and historic Santa Fe (the "City Different") and finishing at Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino.

Detailed race weekend information will be emailed to all entrants 2 weeks before race day and will be posted on www.santafethunder.com.

Please note - all events will start at 7:30 AM (in past years, all events started at 8:00 AM).
