Biography of Sandy Vaillancourt
Sandy Vaillancourt creates paintings that reflect on people, places and scenes from everyday life. From our favorite cafes, shops, scenic overlooks, and neighborhoods to simple flowers, churches, temples and icons. Sandy strives to create art that tell a story and perhaps gives the viewer a short rest from the sometimes hectic world. She paints everywhere she travels creating a unique and lively visual anthropology of our times.
She has always loved painting and respects artists for the role they play in our society. She has studied in California, New York and New Mexico. She holds an MFA from Columbia University and B.A. in International Relations and Journalism from California, State University, Sacramento. Her educational studies and life experiences are reflected in her art. Mostly she can be found painting around Santa Fe and selling her work at local art fairs. She enjoys being close to her art and meeting lots of people from around the world with everyday stories to share.
In the past, she has worked at the Santa Fe Center for Contemporary Art, the Institute for Contemporary Indian Arts, La Raza Galeria Posada in California and managed the UNESCO Santa Fe International Creative Tourism Conference. She also worked at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City and with the Public Theater in New York City. She has lived in Santa Fe for more than 15 years with her husband Jeff Della Penna and their two children - one child was born in New Mexico and the other New York City.
Sandy has been showcasing her Southwest Collection at La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe for 9 years. She has her signed fine art prints, greeting cards, and originals for sale in the Detours store.
