Kathy Olshefsky - Painter

Biography

Kathy paints the colorful world in which she lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico surrounded by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, canyons and other creative people.

Because the first 25 years of her fine arts career was spent studying watercolors and sculpture, her textural oil paintings reflect some sculptural qualities and the influence of watercolor technique: She uses a minimum of brushstrokes and emphasize the background spaces to clarify the subject in its setting. She also uses strong color and imagery to fill the whole frame of my paintings.

Her artistic life intersects with the ranch life of the area, so her subjects are most often animals (and sometimes their people) made momentarily grander by being caught in strong, dramatic light.
