Joseph J Newman - Beadwork
Joseph J. Newman is from Anchorage, Alaska. He is Diné and Inupiaq. Newman has always had an interest in art since he could remember and one of his favorite medium is beadwork. Newman has had an interest in beading since he was very young and would sit across the table from his mother Angela Newman and watch her bead. His parents raised him to know as much as he could about both cultures. His mom Angela Newman is Diné from New Mexico and his dad Frank Newman is Inupiaq from Alaska. His parents raised him around the Pow-wow world, this is where he would learn how to bead his own regalia. In his beadwork, he takes inspiration from animals and flowers that are very special to his tribes. Joseph beads at a contemporary level and is always looking for new inspirations and has participated in the Santa Fe Indian Market for two years. He is currently a student at the Institute of American Indian Arts and is seeking his BFA and Certificate for business.
