Postcard from La Fonda: Batty for the Batmobile at Barrett-Jackson

The Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction produces the world’s greatest collector car events each year in Scottsdale, Arizona; Palm Beach, Florida; Orange County, California; and Las Vegas, Nevada.

The big buzz at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale this weekend was all about the Batmobile. The original 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car that was used in the Batman TV show went for a whopping $4.62 million dollars on Saturday! The final price tag ties the all time record of film/TV cars sold at auction with the  Aston Martin driven by Sean Connery in Gold Finger back in 2010

Amidst all the Batman excitement, I was delighted to see some familiar giraffes from home.  Yes, I said giraffes. Santa Fe’s own Fred Prescott was set up right next to the pedestrian “roadway” –  his kinetic animal sculptures towering over passersby.

Fred’s wild animals were not the only artwork on display. In fact, sometimes it was hard to tell where the automobiles ended and the art began – especially when it came to this monster truck, depicting various scenes from American history from hood to tailgate.

Love it!!! How great is that to find a local artist, with giraffes in Scottsdale! I especially love the Longhorn!! Hook’em!!!! (it looks as though the Longhorn is in Aggie Red rather than Burnt Orange) =)
