Spotlight on Giving
Founded in 2002, the Santa Fe Farmers Market Institute’s main purpose and greatest accomplishment was developing a permanent home for the farmers’ market downtown at The Railyard, to keep vendors from being pushed to the outskirts. Their rule that goods be produced locally and sold by the people who make them has also served as a strong force in keeping family farming viable in northern New Mexico. The market now counts more than 150 active vendors selling year-round.
As part of a nationwide movement toward food sustainability, the Farmers Market Institute is devoting its resources to promoting local, land-based food production. Your donation supports such programs as professional development and micro-loans for agricultural producers, an agricultural land conservation initiative, research on water resources, as well as cooking classes, childhood nutrition, and other public programs that help put healthy eating at the heart of Santa Fe community life.
