Live at La Fonda
“I was a band nerd,” he admits. But Montano quickly progressed beyond marching in bands to writing songs and delving into the American songbook. A veteran of La Fiesta Lounge as a sideman, he is breaking ground as the rare bandleader who plays the trumpet, with regular gigs booked throughout Albuquerque and Santa Fe.
Joined by musical pals Steve Figueroa on piano, Eddie Garcia on drums, and Donnie Tesso on bass, Montano will be serving up dance music that ranges from pop, jazz, and folk to R&B and funk, including just a few of his originals. “We want to give the audience an authentic experience,” he explains.
With all his versatility on stage and screen, Montano remains committed to the trumpet — even if it doesn’t “get you girls,” as his brother had promised. “I’m very blessed to be able to play,” he says sincerely. “Music is what I do, and I wouldn’t want to do anything else in the world.”
