Friends of La Fonda
Among the jewelry artists represented by Rippel and Company, Ray Van Cleve stands out for his elegant, limited edition, one-of-a-kind gold and silver pieces with intricately carved beads. Van Cleve, who learned his craft from a Zuni silversmith, cuts and forms each piece by hand. A jeweler for 40 years with deep roots in the Southwest, he often incorporates semi-precious stones in his work, which includes pendants, earrings, bracelets, small boxes, and sculpture.
Unique pieces by New Mexico artisans are offered at La Fonda Indian Shop. Wood carver Rory Alvarez sculpts humorous pieces that draw on his family roots in wood carving while exhibiting his own contemporary style and trademark palette. Jewelry at the shop includes work by Daniel Coriz of Santa Domingo Pueblo, who is in the permanent collection at the Smithsonian; and Gundi, whose designs inspired by the Southwest draw from the region’s natural beauty.
