The world changes so rapidly these days that ten years can seem like a century. In fact, 100 years ago, New Mexico had just joined the United States — yet 1912 was recent compared with the nation’s birth in 1776. La Fonda is still younger than New Mexico, but at 90 years old, it's among the oldest hotels around. It seems that age really is just a number until you put it in context.
Our “young” state of New Mexico actually hosts the oldest capital city in the United States, an incredible four centuries old. That’s one reason people flock to Santa Fe, for the sense of history — and even ancient history, at the Pueblos. While La Fonda is a mere 90 years old, we came of age with Santa Fe, and think of our evolution together as the golden age of the City Different. That’s why we’re thrilled to be joining the Centennial festivities in 2012, and celebrating how far La Fonda and Santa Fe have come. Like most our age, we’re especially proud to still be going strong!
