Spotlight on Giving
The Santa Fe Children's Museum has hands-on exhibits that integrate art, science, and culture to inspire a love of learning that families can cultivate together, says executive director Anna Marie Tutera Manriquez. Daily drop-in programs range from face painting and snake feeding to storytelling and boat building.
Celebrating its 23rd birthday on February 12th with a program highlighting birthdays around the world, the museum is expanding outreach into the community. This year it will offer classes for parents and caregivers, as well as science classes for homeschoolers. A partnership with the local art collective Meow Wolf will give kids more chances to work with their hands.
It’s vital to offer such opportunities for informal learning, says Tutera Manriquez. “Parents can pick up a lot about how their children learn, at a time when there are not a lot of opportunities for that play-based learning experience.”
