Institute of American Indian Arts’s influence is clearly evident in La Fonda’s Native American art collection. Some of the Institute’s alumni whose work is showcased throughout the hotel include Tony Abeyta, Shonto Begay, and Marla Allison. Their art demonstrates how traditional techniques have evolved over time into contemporary expression, reflecting both a communal and self-aware Native view.
The intellectual dynamo, IAIA, is the only four-year college of contemporary Native American art in the country, and has played a major role in establishing Santa Fe as a center for indigenous art. IAIA’s cutting edge influence continues with the new Digital Dome opened two years ago. The dome projects images from multiple sources and can rotate 90 degrees, creating a virtual “globe” of Native storytelling at the nexus of art and technology. Your support helps Native voices contribute to the social conversation.
